Committees and Commissions
Welcome to the Committees and Commissions page. Take a look at the various volunteer opportunities that help make the Village a better place to live, work and play. The Village President makes appointments subject to confirmation by the Village Board. To read more about our various committees and commissions, please review Ch.20 in the Village's Municipal Code of Ordinances.
Residents are encouraged to participate on various boards, commissions, committees, and task forces relevant to Village issues. These boards and commissions provide leadership, establish policies and oversee budgets while working hard to ensure an open and responsive government. Serving as a board or commission member requires work and commitment, but is very rewarding. The most important qualification for serving is an interest and willingness to serve.

The Village has standing committees comprised of only trustees, and several other committees and commissions on which citizens may also serve. These bodies provide a great way to learn more about how the Village government operates.
Attendance
Members are expected to regularly attend and participate in all meetings.
Rules of Procedure
The Open Meetings Act requires the members of the boards and commissions to discuss public business in an open, public forum. This law requires that whenever a gathering of three or more board or commission members occurs during which public business is discussed, such meetings must be advertised (through a posted agenda) and be open to the public.
Interested in Serving?
If you are interested in serving, please drop off some information about your background and your area of interest to Village Hall, or send your information to the Village Administrator, Gabe Altenbernd at galtenbernd@villageofbelleville.com. Reappointments are typically in April each year, but vacancies may occur throughout the year. On the left is a brief description of our committees and commissions.
