Appearing in Court

Look at the upper hand portion of your citation, if Yes is circled, it is a Mandatory Appearance.  You must appear in court on the date and time indicated on your citation.

If NO is circled you have several options. If you do not dispute the citation, simply mail in your payment.  Please include a copy of your citation.  If you do not appear, the court will find you guilty by default and request payment within 30 days.  If you wish to plead "not guilty", you may do so by mail without appearing in Court.  With a "not guilty" plea you will be told to call the Village Attorney the following Wednesday (the Wednesday after your court date) and have a PRETRIAL conference.  If you and the Village Attorney do not reach an agreement, you will have a TRIAL for the third Thursday of the next month.

If the court has not received payment on your traffic citation, your license will be suspended for 2 years.  If your citation is a municipal citation, you may have a Warrant issued for your arrest.

If your license has been suspended, you must pay your fine before we can lift the suspension from the Department of Motor Vehicles.  If you pay by personal check we will wait until the check clears the bank before we will lift your citation.
